WORKING GROUP FOR AZERBAIJAN`S WTO MEMBERSHIP HOLDS MEETING IN GENEVA
Baku, July 27 (AzerTAc). The seventh meeting of the working group for Azerbaijan`s WTO membership was held on Friday in Geneva.
The Azerbaijan delegation included representatives of Azerbaijan`s ministries of foreign affairs, economic development, justice, industry and energy, finance, taxes and agriculture as well as state committee for standardization, metrology and patent, state customs committee, state committee for property issues and copyright agency.
Speaking at the meeting, Head of the Azerbaijan delegation Mahmud Mammadguliyev said Azerbaijan government puts priority on sustainable socio-economic development, diversification of economy and development of non-oil sector.
Mammadguliyev pointed out improved proposals and other documents on strategically important goods and services have been submitted to the WTO secretariat and respective countries. He briefed meeting participants on the work the country has done to bring the national legislation in conformity with WTO agreements.
The meeting participants decided to present new questions concerning Azerbaijan`s foreign trade regime by September 14, 2009. The next meeting of the group will be held either in late 2009 or in first quarter of 2010.
A request for goods and services to enter Azerbaijani market was presented on July 21-22. Azerbaijan delegation held bilateral talks with USA and European commission.
During the visit, Mammadguliyev held negotiations on Azerbaijan`s WTO membership with WTO, World Bank and UNCTAD senior officials and experts.
