‘HUMAN RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS ARE PROTECTED IN AZERBAIJAN THROUGH NATIONAL LEGISLATION’
Baku, July 27 (AzerTAc). Human rights and freedoms are protected in Azerbaijan through national legislation, said chairwoman of Milli Majlis committee on human rights Rabiyyat Aslanova, commenting on hearings on Azerbaijan in the UN Human Rights Committee.
She noted two third of Azerbaijan`s Constitution dealt with human rights and freedoms, and that the country has joined all relevant international conventions.
All this shows that Azerbaijan considers protection of human rights and freedoms as its main principle, she added.
According to Aslanova, some circles including international organizations try to spoil Azerbaijan`s image and want to cast a shadow on the country`s human rights record.
“Discussions in the UN Human Rights Committee must be unbiased. Azerbaijan leads CIS, in particular Armenia and Georgia in terms of human rights protection.
It is time to do away with double standards. It is not right to use human rights issue as a pressure on any country. It would damage prestige of international organizations, Aslanova said.
