Seoul announces plans to help foreign residents adjust
SEOUL, July 28 (Yonhap) -- The Seoul city government announced Tuesday plans
aimed at helping the growing number of foreign residents here better adjust to
the environment and different living circumstances.
Some 255,000 foreigners are registered as Seoul residents, and 26,000 of them
arrived in the city just last year. To help them get settled, the metropolitan
authority plans to provide booklets in English with detailed information on
transportation, housing and culture, it said in a release.
The city also plans to send out regular invitations to foreigners to visit
Seoul's cultural and entertainment landmarks, and expand chances for them to work
as volunteers at the city's various international festivals.
In October, 100 invitations will be sent out to visit royal palaces, the World
Cup Stadium in Sangamdong in western Seoul and other landmarks for free, the city
said.
Foreign businesspeople will be offered chances to attend policy conferences at
Seoul's chambers of commerce and industry, during which local officials will
provide information on foreign schools and housing, as well as on foreign
investment conditions and prospects in Korea.
