S. Korea, Romania to craft "action plan" for strategic partnership
By Lee Chi-dong
SEOUL, July 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Romania have agreed to draw up an
"action plan" for their strategic partnership at an early date, Seoul's foreign
ministry said Wednesday.
The agreement came at a meeting between Vice Foreign Minister Kwon Jong-rak and
his Romanian counterpart Doru Romulus Costea on Tuesday in the Romanian capital
of Bucharest, it said. Kwon is on a European tour that will also take him to
Portugal and Spain. The trip marks the first time a South Korean vice foreign
minister has visited Romania in eight years.
The two nations decided to upgrade bilateral relations to a strategic partnership
in a summit last September between their leaders in Seoul.
"The two sides have agreed to draw up an action plan at an early date to
implement the accord for strategic partnership," the ministry said in a press
release summing up the results of the vice foreign ministerial talks.
The officials also had "in-depth" discussions on South Korea's efforts to
participate in the construction of Romania's new Chernavoda nuclear power plant,
it said.
They also decided to organize various events next year to mark the 20th
anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
