House resolution to commemorate India's Independence Day
Washington, Jul 29 (PTI) A resolution has been
introduced in the US House of Representatives to commemorate
the 62nd anniversary of India's independence next month.
The resolution "extending best wishes to the people of
India as they celebrate the 62nd anniversary of India's
independence on August 15 from the British Empire" has been
introduced in House by Congressman Jim McDermott, and
co-sponsored by Ed Royce and Sheila Jackson-Lee.
Introduced in the House of Representative on July 24,
the resolution has been sent to House Committee on Foreign
Affairs for necessary action.
Noting that India and the US have a strong ongoing
partnership regarding the promotion of democratic values,
cooperation on international security, and collaboration on
strategic initiatives: The resolution looks forward to
ongoing friendship with India and continuing partnership in
matters of mutual concern.
It also applauds the Indian-American community for the
important role it plays in the relationship between the United
States and India and recognises the fact that India has the
largest number of foreign students in the US, with over 90,000
students from India studying at universities in the country.
