Hyundai Engineering ranks 1st in construction capacity

SEOUL, July 30 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. ranks first
among South Korean builders in terms of construction capacity, government
officials said Thursday.
The value of Hyundai Engineering & Construction's ability to execute construction
projects amounted to 9.29 trillion won (US$7.5 billion) this year, taking the top
spot for the first time since 2003, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime
Affairs said.
Samsung C&T Corp. was second with 8.73 trillion won. Daewoo Engineering &
Construction Co., which retained the top spot from 2006 to 2008, dropped to third
with 8.26 trillion won, the ministry said.
Daewoo Engineering & Construction was followed by GS Engineering & Construction
Co. with 8.14 trillion won and Daelim Industrial Co. with 6.25 trillion won, it
said.
The ministry releases the rankings of builders' construction capacity at the end
of July each year to help clients select a suitable builder for their orders.
