Audi Volkswagen recalling 96 vehicles for defects

SEOUL, July 30 (Yonhap) -- Vehicle importer Audi Volkswagen Korea is recalling 96
of its Touareg sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) due to manufacturing defects, the
transportation ministry said Thursday.

The defect could cause the spoiler attached to the back of the SUVs to come
loose, which can cause damage and hamper the safe driving of trailing vehicles,
the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said in an e-mailed
statement.
A spoiler is an automotive aerodynamic device designed to "spoil" unfavorable air
movement across a vehicle body in motion.
Subject to the recalls are two models -- the Touareg 3.0 TDI and the Touareg R50
-- produced between Dec. 23. 2006 and Dec. 10 of last year, according to the
ministry.
The affected vehicles are eligible for free repairs at the company's affiliated
service centers starting Friday or compensation for expenses incurred from
repairs before the recall, the ministry said.
