KEPCO's power line communication adopted as global standard
By Nam Kwang-sik
SEOUL, July 31 (Yonhap) -- Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO), South Korea's
state power firm, said Friday that its power line communication system has been
adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as a global
standard.
Power line communication, a system for carrying data on a conductor used for
electric power transmission, is also used for a smart grid that delivers
electricity by using digital technology to save energy, reduce costs and increase
reliability.
"The adoption of our power line communication by the ISO paves the way for us to
preempt the global smart grid market," KEPCO said in a statement.
The Geneva-based ISO is an international-standard-setting body composed of
representatives from various national standards organizations.
