S. Korea, U.S. to seek cooperation in broadcasting, telecom sectors

Seoul, July 31 (Yonhap) -- Telecom regulators in South Korea and the United
States agreed Friday to seek bilateral cooperation in the broadcasting and
telecommunications sectors, South Korean officials said.
During their talks by telephone earlier in the day, Choi Si-joong, chairman of
the Korea Communications Commission, and Julius Genachowski, new chief of the
U.S. Federal Communications Commission, stressed the need to sign a memorandum of
understanding (MOU) on cooperation between the two bodies at an early date.
Choi proposed the two sides sign such an MOU when he visited the U.S. agency in
May.
The two also agreed to select representatives to lead future discussions to
facilitate the envisioned MOU, the officials said.
The MOU is expected to cover cooperation between South Korea and the U.S. in such
areas as policy, technology, human resources, as well as research and
development.
