77 PERCENT OF AZERBAIJANIS APPROVE OF COUNTRY`s LEADERSHIP, GALLUP POLL
Baku, 1 August (AzerTAc). Some 77 percent of the Azerbaijani population approve of the job performance of the country`s leadership, according to the Gallup poll results.
The poll results revealed that Azerbaijan`s authorities enjoy the highest approval ratings among former Soviet republics, the product of the national leader Heydar Aliyev-launched social and economic development strategy, which is today being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev.
The ongoing large-scaled reforms and projects have turned Azerbaijan into a regional leader, increasing the country`s international prestige.
Over the last five years, Azerbaijan`s economy grew 2.6-fold, with per capita income reaching $5,500. The industry production saw a 2.5-fold increase during this period, and 766,000 jobs were created in the country. The budget expenditures grew more than 12-fold, while the minimum wage and pension increased 8.3- and 4-fold respectively.
In the wake of the reforms, the level of poverty in Azerbaijan declined from 49 to 13.2 percent.
According to the World Bank`s Doing Business 2009 report, Azerbaijan went further than any other economy and catapulted 64 places in the global rankings to 33, and was announced top global reformer.
All these achievements show that the Gallup poll results are not accidental.
