S. Korea`s Park fails to reach 1,500-meter freestyle final
ROME, Aug. 1 (Yonhap) -- Park Tae-hwan of South Korea failed to qualify for the
finals of the men's 1,500-meter freestyle at the World Swimming Championships
under way in Rome on Saturday.
Park, 20, clocked 15.00.87, more than four seconds behind his best personal record.
It was the third setback in Rome for the world and Olympic 400-meter freestyle
champion. He earlier had failed to advance to both the 200-meter and 400-meter
freestyle finals.
Park won the gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics in
Beijing, becoming the first South Korean to triumph in Olympic swimming
competition.
