Parliament approves loan agreements worth $ 38 mn

SANA'A, Aug 06 (Saba) - Parliament
approved Wednesday loan agreements worth $ 38 million to boost rural electricity
coverage
and to finance the Yemeni-Korean Higher Technical Institute.

One of the loans singed
between Yemen and the Islamic Development Bank, $ 23 million, would be used to
boosting
the capacity of electricity coverage through building circuits connected to the
national network and independent circuits in rural areas. The project, to be
implemented at
a total cost of $ 117 million from the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the
French Development Agency, the Yemeni and German government as well as other
financers,
will supply power to 180.000 subscribers in 12 Yemen rural areas. And the
independent networks will supply thermal energy to 20.000
subscribers. The second loan, $ 15.4 million, under an agreement signed between
Yemen and the Export-Import Bank of Korea, will contribute to financing the
Yemeni-Korean
Higher technical Institute. The project would be implemented at a total cost of $
