Hockey World Cup advanced by a week to avoid clash with IPL

New Delhi, Aug 6 (PTI) International Hockey Federation
(FIH) on Friday brought forward the 2010 World Cup, to be held
in the capital, a week ahead of its original schedule to avoid
a clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL).
"The International Hockey Federation decided to start the
Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010 in New Delhi, India one week
earlier as originally scheduled," the FIH said in a statement.

Accordingly, the new dates of the tournament will be
February 28- March 13, 2010.

The third edition of the IPL is scheduled from March 12 -
April 25.

"The reason the FIH moved the World Cup 2010 one week is
to get an even better worldwide promotion of FIH's showcase
event," the statement said.

The 2010 World Cup will see the best 12 teams in action
at the National Stadium here.

Canada, Korea, South Africa and host India have already
qualified for the World Cup and the ongoing qualifying process
for the remaining slots will conclude in November. PTI AY
