Saleh: next year will see strengthened municipal governance
SANA'A, Aug. 10 (Saba)
- President Ali Abdullah Saleh has said that local governments in Yemen could be
grant
broad powers as off next year, with the municipalities managing budgets independently.
In a statement to the state-run al-Jomhoriyah newspaper Saleh affirmed the move
aims to promote developments and meet the people's infrastructure needs without
bias to a
specific region.
And it comes ahead of possible constitutional amendments agreed among the political
spectrum in early this year, Saleh added.
Shifting to strengthened local governance the responsibility of the central
government then will be to plan and oversee the acts of the local governments.
