Maha govt wants Pak to take back bodies of Mumbai attackers
Mumbai, Aug 11 (PTI) The government of India's western
state of Maharashtra has approached the Centre to ask Pakistan
to take back bodies of nine terrorists killed in the Mumbai
terror attacks last year.
"We have approached the Union Home Ministry to ask
Pakistan to take back bodies of the nine terrorists kept at
the JJ Hospital morgue here," Maharashtra Home Minister Jayant
Patil said.
Patil said Islamabad had already admitted the identity
of four terrorists, but the state government wanted to send
all the nine bodies to Pakistan.
"It is clear that the slain terrorists had come from
Pakistan and that country should take back their bodies," the
minister, who had made the demand earlier this year also,
said.
"We will wait for 10 to 12 days for response (from
Pakistan) failing which we would take a decision on disposing
bodies of the terrorists," Patil told reporters Monday.
The confession by Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, the lone
surviving terrorist in the attacks, has prompted the state
government to step up efforts for making Pakistan take
responsibility of the bodies.
Initially, the state government had decided to bury
the bodies but dropped the plan following objection from
Muslim clerics who said they would not allow terrorists'
bodies to be buried here. PTI VT
