U.S. beef protester fined for embezzlement

SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) -- A Seoul court fined a South Korean protester 1 million
won (US$800) for embezzling money donated to a campaign against U.S. beef imports
last year, court officials said Tuesday.

The unidentified Seoul man was indicted for personally spending 880,000 won of
22.4 million won in donations he had collected from ordinary citizens during the
months-long street rallies against U.S. beef imports, said the officials.
The man is accused of spending the money on food and alcohol, among other things,
they noted.
