Met dept forecast rain in drought-hit Jharkhand
Ranchi, Aug 11 (PTI) Amid severe drought in India's
eastern state of Jharkhand, the weathermen Tuesday predicted a
widespread rainfall across the state following an upper air
cyclonic circulation over North-West Bay of Bengal and the
adjoining Gangetic region and north coastal Orissa.
Under the influence of the circulation, a low pressure
area is likely to form over the same region by Wednesday with
widespread rainfall in Jharkhand, P K Mohanty, Director of
Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, said.
Jharkhand was declared a drought-hit state two weeks
ago after scanty rainfall.
According to Abdul Wadood, senior scientist of the
Brisa Agriculture University, the rainfall will help the
farmers, who had not seen such a deficient monsoon in last 53
years.
"The weather office forecast will certainly help the
farmers who have transplanted crops, which require stagnated
water, in low lands. Paddy crop in plains which are turning
pale could be saved if it rains now," Wadood told PTI. PTI PVR
