By Lee Youkyung

SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares got off to a strong start Thursday on the back of overnight rallies on Wall Street, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 9.21 points, or 0.59
percent, to 1,574.56 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. markets closed higher Wednesday as the Federal Reserve's upbeat view of the
economy boosted sentiment. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 1.3 percent
and the tech-laden Nasdaq composite index jumped 1.47 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,238.3 won to the greenback as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 8.2 won from Wednesday's close.
