S. Korean maritime researcher one of 'top 100 scientists' in 2009

Seoul, Aug. 13 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean researcher was chosen as one of the
world's top 100 scientists in 2009 by a world renowned biographical agency for
his work on maritime activity, Seoul officials said Thursday.
Kwon Seok-jae, a 44-year-old researcher at the Korea Hydrographic and
Oceanographic Administration, was included in the annual list put out by the
International Biographical Center (IBC), according to the Ministry of Land,
Transport and Maritime Affairs.
Headquartered in Britain, the IBC is known as one of the world's most respected
biographical agencies. It selects the top 100 scientists every year based on
their research activities and contributions to their respective fields.
Kwon, who has a doctorate degree in bioengineering, has been carrying out
extensive research on the world's oceans and other maritime-related subjects, the
ministry said.
