S. Korea logs trade surplus for 6th month in July
SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korea continued to post a trade surplus for a
sixth straight month in July as imports declined sharper than exports amid a
global economic slowdown, a government report showed Thursday.
According to the report by the Korea Customs Service, South Korea's trade surplus
amounted to US$4.41 billion last month compared with a surplus of $7.27 billion
in the previous month.
The figure marked the sixth consecutive month of surpluses since February,
bringing the nation's cumulative surplus for this year to $34.07 billion.
Imports declined sharper than overseas shipments. Exports fell 21.8 percent last
month from a year earlier to $32.02 billion, while imports plunged 35.7 percent
over the same period to $27.61 billion, according to the report.
