Asiana Airlines swings to black in Q2

SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Yonhap) -- Asiana Airlines Inc., South Korea's second-largest carrier, said Thursday that it swung to the black in the second quarter mainly due to gains from equity ties with affiliates.

Net profit reached 47.1 billion won (US$38 million) in the April-June period,
compared with a loss of 19.2 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a
regulatory filing.
Sales, however, fell 18 percent to 848 billion won over the cited period due to
decreased travel demand.
The company also suffered an operating loss of 130 billion won in the second
quarter, widening from a loss of 17.9 billion won a year earlier, it said.
