23 killed, 20 injured in HP bus accident



Chamba (HP), Aug 14 (PTI) An over-crowded bus rolled
down a 300-ft deep gorge near Salooni in Chamba district in
northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh Friday killing 23
passengers, ten of them children and the government has
ordered an enquiry into the accident.

The mishap also left 20 others injured. Most of them
were admitted to Civil Hospital, Salooni while others were
under treatment at Regional Hospital, Chamba, Additional
Superintendent of Police D K Chaudhary said.

The cause of the mishap was not ascertained. Transport
Minister Mohinder Singh has directed the district
administration to probe the accident, official sources said.

The dead inluded four women also.

The bus was proceeding to Chamba town from Sanghni
village of Salooni tehsil when the mishap occurred near Kundi,
about 55 km from the district headquarters, the ASP said.

The victims belonged to nearby areas of Salooni and
