Kia Motors readies Venga subcompact for Europe

SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's second-largest
carmaker, said Tuesday it will unveil the Venga subcompact car next month as it
battles to boost sales in the European market.

The new four-door, four-seat model, which will make its debut at the Frankfurt
Motor Show starting Sept. 15, features either a 1.4-liter or a 1.6-liter engine
as well as fuel-efficient technologies, Kia said in a statement.
One of those technologies is a so-called idle stop-and-go system, which prevents
unnecessary fuel consumption by stopping operation of an engine when a car is not
moving, according to the statement.
"The Venga is targeted at urban drivers," said a Kia official. The name Venga
translates as "come or go" in Spanish. The car will only be available for
purchase in Europe.
Prices and other details weren't disclosed.
In the first seven months of this year, Kia's global vehicle sales rose 6.4
percent from the same period a year ago to 892,916 vehicles.
