Samsung retains top spot in global LCD TV market

SEOUL, Aug. 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co. was the world's top seller of liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs during the first half of this year, a market report showed Wednesday.

Samsung Electronics sold 10.7 million LCD TV units in the January-June period,
according to global market researcher DisplaySearch. It was trailed by local
competitor LG Electronics Inc., which sold 6.7 million units in the same period.
Samsung Electronics was the first and only TV manufacturer to sell more than 10
million LCD TVs in the six-month period.
Japan's Sony Corp. came in third place by selling 6.5 million units in the first
half of 2009.
