Senior Chinese official visits S. Korea to promote bilateral ties
SEOUL, Aug. 20 (Yonhap) -- A senior Chinese Communist Party official arrived in
South Korea Thursday as part of an exchange of high-profile visits between the
two neighboring countries, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.
He Yong, member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central
Committee and also deputy-secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline
Inspection, was to have a dinner meeting with Rep. Ahn Sang-soo, floor leader of
the ruling Grand National Party, later in the day.
He will also meet National Assembly Speaker Kim Hyong-o, Prime Minister Han
Seung-soo and Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan on Friday to discuss ways to develop
Seoul-Beijing ties and other issues of mutual concern, ministry spokesman Moon
Tae-young said. He will then travel to the southern port city of Busan and the
resort island of Jeju before leaving the country next Monday.
"His visit to South Korea, following a trip by Li Changchun, member of the
Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, in April, is part
of the exchange of visits by high-level officials between South Korea and China,"
Moon said. "It is expected to contribute to cementing the two nations' strategic
cooperative partnership and promote friendly relations."
