Lee calls for prosecution efforts to change, win public trust

SEOUL, Aug. 20 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak called Thursday on the
prosecution to make strenuous efforts at self-reform, saying its deeply rooted
investigation methods could be undermining public trust toward it.
The call came as the president appointed Kim Joon-kyu as new prosecutor-general
in a ceremony at the presidential office.
"The prosecution must win back the trust of the public by demonstrating voluntary
efforts to change itself," the president was quoted as saying by his spokesman,
Lee Dong-kwan.
"I hope the prosecution will first look back to see if there have been any bad
practices in its investigations and make continuous efforts to improve," the
president said.
The president also called on the prosecution to help eradicate corruption.
"You must work with the firm resolution that corruption by those in power will
not be accepted under any circumstances," the president said.
