SK Chemicals signs 60 bln won biodiesel deal
By Nam Kwang-sik
SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- SK Chemicals Co., a South Korean pharmaceutical and
chemical products manufacturer, said Friday that it has signed a 60 billion won
(US$48 million) deal with a Singaporean company to provide biodiesel in 2010.
Biodiesel is a non-petroleum-based diesel fuel made using vegetable oil or
animal fat, which can be used in unmodified diesel-engine vehicles.
Under the deal, SK Chemicals will supply biodiesel to Trafigura Pte Ltd., an oil
trader, during all of 2010, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Last March, SK Chemicals started mass production of biodiesel at its plant in
Ulsan, an industrial city about 400km southeast of Seoul. The plant's annual
production capacity is 120,000 tons.
