S. Korea to join U.N. disarmament forum in Japan

SEOUL, Aug. 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's foreign ministry said Monday that it will dispatch a working-level official to the annual U.N. disarmament forum to be held later this week in Niigata, Japan.

The 21st U.N. Conference on Disarmament Issues is scheduled to be held from
Wednesday to Friday, co-organized by the U.N. and Japan, the ministry said.
"Shin Dong-ik, director general of the international organization bureau, will
attend the conference at the invitation of organizers," ministry spokesman Moon
Tae-young said.
On Tuesday, Shin plans to meet his Japanese counterpart in Tokyo for the eighth
session of the neighboring countries' bilateral discussions on disarmament, added
the spokesman.
