ABURIZAL HAS GREATER CHANCE TO BECOME GOLKAR LEADER: OBSERVER
Kupang, Indonesia, Aug 25 (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie who is to run for the Golkar Party chairmanship has a greater chance to win the election than other candidates, an observer said.
"Compared with other candidates, namely Tommy Soeharto and Yuddy Chrisnandi, Aburizal has a greater chance to grab Golkar's top position to replace Jusuf Kalla at the party's national conference next October 4, 2008," political observer from Nusa Cendana University Alo Liliweri said here on Tuesday.
But Liliweri was uncertain if Golkar would become the ruling party in 2014 general election because the party needed a lot of time to restore its image.
Therefore, Liliweri said Aburizal in the next five years should make use of the party's existing energy and resources to make consolidation until the grass root level.
In addition, he said all of the party's cadres in the legislative at all levels should as well play their optimal role to control the government policies which failed to support the interest of the people at large.
To be able to control government policies, he said Golkar should be ready to remain outside the government.
"It means Golkar's cadres should be ready to stay outside the cabinet in order to control the government policies," Liliweri said.
Meanwhile, the party's East Nusa Tenggara executive board's deputy chairman Hendrik Rawanbaku said Aburizal would gain major support from East Nusa Tenggara because he was considered capable to restore Golkar's image and to have victory in 2014 general election.
Rawanbaku said the reason for Golkar of East Nusa Tenggara chapter to support Aburizal, popularly known as Ical, was that the latter had a strong commitment to financially supporting the regions in restoring the party's image.
He said another important reason was that Aburizal had made a commitment not to nominate himself in the 2014 presidential election because he wanted to stay outside the government and concentrate his focus on the restoration of Golkar's image.***
