Yemen, donors discuss education development project reorganization

SANA'A, Aug.25 (Saba) - An enlarged meeting between Ministry of Education and donors held here on Tuesday discussed requirements of reorganizing the basic education development project funded by donors.

The meeting chaired by Minister of Education Abdul-Salam al-Jawfi and attended by representatives of the donors, dealt with the progress in the project's plan for 2009 and
distributing the financial portions according to the plan.
Al-Jawfi confirmed the importance of signing the understanding memo between Yemen and donors at its final form on expanding the project's period for four years more and
reorganizing the project.
During the meeting, the project's Executive Director Ahmed al-Arashi presented a brief over what has been achieved in regards to expanding the project's period in light
of the facts agreed upon with the World Bank's mission that visited Yemen recently for reorganizing the project.
Al-Arashi reviewed the problems which hinder the implementation of some unfunded activities forming a financial gap for the project.
The meeting discussed the project's financial report which showed that the total expanses spent by the project during 2009 amounted to $20 million in addition to what has
bees spent since the beginning of the project in 2003.
In this regard, the two sides stressed the necessity of availing from the available amounts to carry out the project's activities.
They affirmed on the importance of supporting the educational activities of the social gender so as to contribute to reducing the gap between the two genders and achieving
the equality in education, noting the significance of the current mechanism for choosing teachers for training and qualifying.
