Seoul shares open higher on Wall Street gains
SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started stronger Wednesday as investors took comfort from overnight gains in U.S. markets, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 5.94 points, or
0.37 percent, to 1,607.32 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. markets closed higher Tuesday as news that Ben Bernanke was nominated for a
second term as Federal Reserve chairman helped dispel uncertainty. The Dow Jones
industrial average climbed 0.32 percent and the tech-laden Nasdaq composite index
rose 0.31 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,248.9 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
down 0.7 won from Tuesday's close.
