UNICEF ENDS TASK OF DEALING WITH H1N1 VIRUS IN SEPTEMBER

Ambon, Aug 26 (ANTARA) - The Unicef will put an end to its tasks of overcoming the spread of the H1N1 A virus in Indonesia in September this year, and to be taken over by the WHO.

"Our task of overcoming the spread of the swine flu (H1N1)in Indonesia will come to an end next month and the task will be taken over by the WHO starting next year," Media Consultant of Unicef Indonesia, Ary Rukmantara said in Ambon on Wednesday.

Rukmantara was in Ambon since Monday to address a workshop on consolidation and simulation of management and preparedness of non-medical personnel in facing a pandemic of the H1N1 virus and Avian Influenza (H5N1) held by the Maluku Media Center (MMC), Unicef, Ambon city administration, with the support of the National Commission for Bird Flu and Influenza Pandemic (FBPI).

The Ambon city administration and Maluku in general need to become really responsive because the H1N1 virus spreads very rapidly and has now reached 24 of the 33 provinces in Indonesia, he said.

He said the H1N1 virus attacks humans by direct contact, so that coordination between the different sectors would be very necessary in anticipating the arrival of the virus in the region, especially that geographically, Ambon and Maluku are very exposed to many entries and exits.

"A pandemic in Ambon city needs the handling of the different sectors," he pointed out.

The workshop is expected to produce various decisions and policies as operational procedure standards which will enable the professional handling of the two dangerous viruses. ***3***
