PRESIDENT TO ATTEND G-20 SUMMIT IN PITTSBURGH
Jakarta, Aug 27 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is to attend a G-20 summit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the United States, in September this year.
Minister/State Secretary Hatta Rajasa said here on Thursday Indonesia would at the summit among other things bring up matters related to the management of the global economic crisis.
"There are several important points related to the management of the global financial crisis that we are going to bring up at the G-20 summit and they are still being formulated," Rajasa said.
He made the statement on the sidelines of a coordination meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirayuda and Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu.
Rajasa said the summit in Pittsburgh from September 24 to 26, 2009 would be a follow-up on a G-20 summit in London in April last year.
With 85 percent of the world's gross domestic product (GDP) and the home to two thirds of the global population, G-20 is made up of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, Britain, the United States, South Korea, and the European Union.
Besides attending the summit, Rajasa said the president would also hold a gathering with a number of business makers and give a lecture at Harvard University.
"President Yudhoyono will attend the G-20 summit in Pittsburg and then hold business gathering with Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), give a lecture on Indonesia at Harvard University, and visit renewable energy industries," Rajasa said.
But he added that the president would not attend the United Nations General Assembly session on September 22 because it would coincide with the Idul Fitri festivity.
Asked about bilateral meetings between President Yudhoyono and other foreign heads of state, Rajasa said they were still being arranged.
"The president plans to have bilateral meetings with several other heads of state but it is still being arranged," Rajasa said.***
