Seoul shares open higher on Wall Street gains
SEOUL, Aug. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started stronger Friday as
investors took comfort from overnight gains in U.S. markets, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 5.94 points, or
0.94 percent, to 1,614.29 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. markets closed higher Thursday helped by gains in financial and industrial
shares. The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 0.39 percent and the tech-laden
Nasdaq composite index rose 0.16 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,244.35 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 4.35 won from Thursday's close.
