Samsung Electronics asked to clarify report on China plant
SEOUL, Aug. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's bourse operator Friday called on Samsung
Electronics Co. to respond to a media report that it is considering setting up a
large liquid crystal display (LCD) plant in China.
The vernacular Seoul Economic Daily reported Friday that Samsung Electronics is
in talks with the Chinese government to build an 8th-generation panel plant in a
southeastern part of the country, aiming to bring it online by 2011.
The report came three days after LG Display, the world's second-largest flat
panel maker, announced it is pushing to build its first LCD plant in China.
The Korea Exchange said that Samsung Electronics, the world's largest display
maker, will be required to disclose its position on the report by 6 p.m. Friday.
Shares of Samsung Electronics were trading at 780.000 won as of 10:30 a.m., up
1.69 percent from the previous session.
