Hyundai, Kia see highest monthly sales in U.S. for August
SEOUL, Aug. 28 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Motors Corp.
said Friday they were expected to post their highest monthly sales each in the
United States this month, backed by aggressive marketing efforts.
Hyundai may have sold about 54,000 units in the U.S. in August, and Kia's sales
could have topped 40,000 units for the same month, the two companies said in a
joint statement.
"The figures would mark the highest monthly sales records for Hyundai and Kia,"
the statement said.
Since early this year, Hyundai has offered a generous incentive program that
allows U.S. customers experiencing financial difficulties to return their
vehicles free of charge.
Under the program, those who purchased a Hyundai vehicle but can't make their
payments due to layoffs, personal bankruptcy or accidental health issues can
return the vehicle within a year of purchase.
Helped by the program, the combined U.S. market share of Hyundai and Kia rose to
7.3 percent as of July, compared with a 5.3 percent at the end of last year,
according to the statement.
