YUDDY ASKS MBAK TUTUT TO RUN FOR GOLKAR PARTY CHAIR

Jakarta, Aug 28 (ANTARA) - Yuddy Chrisnandi has asked Siti Hardiyanti Rukmana, eldest daughter of the late president Soeharto, to run for Golkar Party chairperson at the party's national conference in Pekanbaru next October.

"If Mbak Tutut (Siti Hardiyanti) is prepared to run, I will withdraw as a candidate and become a member of her success team," the young Golkar cadre said at the parliament building here on Friday.

Yuddy who is head of the party's department of organization and youth and caderization affairs has so far been one of the aspirants for the top position in the party.

He met with Mbak (sister) Tutut at her residence in Cendana, Central Jakarta, Thursday evening.

During the meeting, Yuddy expressed his readiness to mobilize support for Mbak Tutut if she would run for the party's chair at the party conference in October.

If Mbak Tutut refused, he said, he would ask for her blessing to continue his candidacy. He said he asked for her blessing because he used to work for her.

Yuddy said because he had worked for her he knew Mbak Tutut's potentials to lead the organization.

He said the stigma of being a member of the Cendana family (Soeharto's family) was no longer relevant now after 10 years of reform in the country as the community had already imposed social sanctions on them.

Before meeting Mbak Tutut, Yuddy had met with Tommy Soeharto to discuss developments in the Golkar Party.

Hutomo Mandala Putra or Tommy Soeharto had also expressed his readiness to run for the party's leadership.

Golkar was beaten in the legislative elections in April falling second after the Democrats' Party of current president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

The party's present general chairman, Jusuf Kalla, meanwhile was also defeated to a third place in the presidential race on July 8, by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
