Sensex shies away from 16k level; rises by over 140 pts
Mumbai, Aug 28 (PTI) Extending gains for the seventh
straight session Friday, the Bombay Stock Exchange barometer
Sensex rose by over 140 points as fund houses picked up stocks
following strong global cues.
The 30-share index, which gained 6.5 per cent in the last
six trading sessions, added another 141.27 points to close at
15,922.34 points. The index touched the day's high of
15,957.67 points.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose
by 44.15 points to 4,732.35 points.
The market was supported by reports of firm Asian cues
and better opening of European stock markets on increased
optimism about the global economic recovery.
Stocks of realty, auto, capital goods, bank, metal and
refinery sectors registered notable gains as investors rushed
to buy fundamentally strong blue-chips.
