Paddlers defy flu threat, ready for CWG camp in Pune

New Delhi, Aug 30 (PTI) Swine flu continues to claim
lives in Pune but country's top paddlers said they have no
problems attending the Commonwealth Games training camp at the
Balewadi Sports Complex there from Wednesday.

The Table Tennis Federation of India has decided to hold
a 27-day special camp, with all the core probables of next
year's Delhi Games, in Pune which is the epicentre of the H1N1
virus pandemic.

"I am fine with the Federation's decision and personally
have no problems attending the camp. When the federation has
taken the decision, I am sure they have considered every
possibility," former national champion Subhajit Saha told PTI.

"Initially, I was also a bit concerned about the disease.
But as the venue is around 13 kms from the main city, I don't
think there will be any problem for us," Saha said from
Gangtok.

"Actually I was busy with the tournament and have not get
much time to think about it. However, I will speak to the
federation regarding the matter," the Bengal paddler added.

Pune has been hit hard by the pandemic with at least 27
people so far falling prey to the deadly virus. Over all, the
disease has claimed 97 lives in the country till date.

TTFI took the final call after receiving green signal
from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) last week. More PTI
