Yemen, UNDP discuss humanitarian conditions in Saada

SANA'A, Aug.31 (Saba) - Yemen
and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) discussed here on Monday the
humanitarian
conditions of the dislodged people because of the events in Yemen's strife province
of Saada.
The meeting gathered Foreign Minster Abu Bakr al-Qirbi with Resident-Representative
of UNDP Pratibha Mehta reviewed the humanitarian role of the UN organizations and
the
Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) to aid the war-affected people.
In the meeting, the UN official expressed her satisfaction for the level of
cooperation and coordination between the government and the local authorities in
the provinces
where camps were set up for receiving the displaced people.
Al- Houthi rebels have been launching sporadic wars against the troops since 2004.
Since the fighting erupted in 2004, thousands of people, soldiers and insurgents
have been killed in Saada province, which located close to border with Saudi
Arabia, after
the rebel group was founded by rebel leader Hussein al- Houthi.
Hussein, the eldest brother of the current group leader Abdul-Malik, was killed by
the army in September 2004.
The Yemeni government accuses al-Houthi group of trying to reinstall the rule of
imams, which was toppled by a republican revolution in northern Yemen in 1962.
Clashes have been revived recently between the army and the al-Houthi rebel group
in Yemen's restive region of Sa'ada.
Earlier in this month, The Yemeni government announced conditions for a ceasefire
in the area but it seem the defiant rebels have not yet accepted the conditions.
According to the UN mission, there are more than 160.000 displaced people due to
the recent confrontations between the army and rebels.
