S. Korea looks for broader language skills in diplomats
SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korea is looking to recruit foreign service officers with proficiency in non-English languages, including Arabic, Russian and Spanish, the administrative ministry said Tuesday.
The Cabinet approved a motion to include languages other than Korean or English
in the national foreign service examination from 2011, according to the Ministry
of Public Administration and Security.
Those who opt for Arabic, Russian, or Spanish will take essay tests and interview
in the chosen language, Previously, applicants had to choose between Korean and
English.
The state examination consists of three stages. Around 40 out of some 1,000
applicants pass the test.
