Hyundai Rotem delivers first rail car to U.S.

SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Rotem Co., a South Korean train maker, said Tuesday that it has delivered its first rail car to a U.S. regional public authority.

In 2006, Hyundai Rotem, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Co., won a US$270 million
deal from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Agency (SEPTA) to supply
120 passenger trains by 2010.
Hyundai Rotem has a plant in Philadelphia with an annual production capacity of
200 rail cars to widen its market share in the U.S.
The company is also seeking to bid for a lucrative bullet train project by the
U.S. State of California.
Though still at an early stage, California plans to spend billions of dollars to
build a high-speed railway, which would link major cities with services at a
speed of up to 220 miles-per hour.
