LG launches new 'Chocolate' handset

SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's LG Electronics has launched a new
version of its popular "Chocolate" mobile phone to help strengthen its presence
in the worldwide handset market, the company said Wednesday.

"New Chocolate," the fourth model in its premium Black Label series, will be
marketed first in Europe followed by sales in South Korea, Asia and South
America.
The South Korean company, once widely known as a producer of home appliances like
air conditioners and refrigerators, emerged in 2006 as one of the world's leading
cell phone makers with its original "Chocolate" phone, which sold 21 million
units worldwide.
The latest model features a 10.16cm wide high-definition LCD with an 800x345
pixel resolution. The phone also features a full cinematic 21:9 ratio screen, LG
said, adding the initial response to the phone has exceeded original expectations
by a wide margin.
LG expects its newest phone in the Black Label series will compete with Apple
Inc.'s iconic iPhone.
The company overtook Motorola Inc. to become the world's third-largest seller of
mobile handsets in the second quarter of this year. Nokia Corp. of Finland is the
No. 1 maker, trailed by South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co.
