Seoul stocks open weaker on U.S. falls
SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start Wednesday,
tracking Wall Street falls in the previous session, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dropped 28.13 points, or
1.73 percent, to 1,594.93 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. stocks tumbled Tuesday, led by financial shares, amid fears of a market
correction. The Dow Jones industrial average dipped 1.96 percent and the Nasdaq
composite index dropped 2 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,252.75 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., down 12.15 won from Tuesday's close.
