Hyundai Mobis gets US$2 bln order from Chrysler

SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Mobis Co. said Wednesday it has received a
US$2 billion order from U.S. automaker Chrysler LLC, the largest contract ever
for the South Korean auto-parts maker.
Under the contract, Hyundai Mobis will provide Chrysler with front- and
rear-chassis modules from May 2010, the company said in a statement.
The auto parts will be used to make Chrysler's Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge
Durango models, Hyundai Mobis said.
"With the contract, the company will make efforts to supply modules to other
carmakers in the U.S.," said Lee Joon-hyeong, executive vice president of Hyundai
Mobis, in the statement.
Hyundai Mobis, meanwhile, said it will build a new production line in the U.S.
near a Chrysler plant that can begin churning out modules starting next February,
according to the statement.
Hyundai Mobis is a unit of Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest carmaker.
