EXPERT: GOVT NOT SERIOUS ENOUGH IN HANDLING HAZE PROBLEM
Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, Sept. 3 (ANTARA) - The haze problem which occurs annually in Central Kalimantan indicates that the government is not serious enough in handling the man-made disaster, according to an expert.
The government should have conducted preventive measures rather than dealing with the haze problem when it occurred, DR Eng. Akhmat Sajarwan, a land expert of Palangkaraya University said here on Thursday.
The authorities should closely watch the behavior of farmers setting fire to peat soil which is very inflammable , he said.
If the government was serious, it should have rehabilitated damaged peat soil to restore its water catchment function , he said.
