Sales of imported cars in S. Korea dip 26.1 pct in Aug.

SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Yonhap) -- Sales of imported vehicles in South Korea sank 26.1 percent in August from a year ago, hit by falling demand amid an economic downturn, industry data showed Thursday.
Dealers sold 3,612 imported cars last month, compared with 4,894 units for the
same period last year, the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors
Association said in a statement. Compared with a month earlier, August sales were
down 10.5 percent.
Germany's BMW was the most popular foreign car brand in South Korea last month
with 673 vehicles sold, followed by Audi with 510 units and Mercedes-Benz with
435, according to the statement.
In the first eight months of this year, sales of imported cars in South Korea
fell 18.1 percent from a year ago to 36,674 units, it said.
