Ruling party lawmakers to visit Sweden, Serbia as presidential envoys

SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will send two ruling party lawmakers as special envoys to Sweden and Serbia to celebrate long-standing diplomatic ties with the countries and discuss ways to increase mutual cooperation, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

La Kyung-won and Bae Young-shik of the Grand National Party (GNP) will visit
Sweden from Sept. 7-9 to meet with parliamentary speaker Per Westerberg, Trade
Minister Ewa Bjorling and other ranking officials to seek enhanced cooperation in
economics, trade and other areas, the ministry said.
The two lawmakers will visit Serbia from Sept. 9-11, where they will pay a
courtesy call on President Boris Tadic and meet with the country's foreign
minister and parliamentary speaker.
South Korea this year celebrates the 50th and 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties
with Sweden and Serbia, respectively.
The envoys will later make a brief stop in the Czech Republic on Sept. 12 to meet
with officials from South Korean businesses in the country before returning to
Seoul on the same day.
