Rebels giving up
SAADA, Sep. 03 (Saba) - Dozens of rebels including field leaders
handed themselves in to the army late on Wednesday with their weapons, pledging to
stop fighting
the troops in exchange for their safety, a security source told www.almotamar.net.
The source said about 58 Houthi followers willingly surrendered to the troops
pursuing the Houthi fighters in the districts of Al-Malahiz, Sunbul, Abu Ras and
Damaj in Yemen's
northern Saada province.
The rebels also pledged to reveal names of other Houthi fighters who have been
fighting the troops since 2004.
The surrenders come as the army has stepped up attacks on the Houthi followers in
Saada and some parts of neighboring Amran, destroying rebel positions and seizing
weapons.
The military operations in northern Yemen started last month.
The government then announced conditions for a ceasefire that were totally
rejected by the rebels.
Days ago, they announced a ceasefire initiative that the government criticized
saying there was nothing new with it.
