Srinivasan also said that there was no urgency for India
to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).
Asked whether he thought India needed to conduct further
nuclear tests, he said, "We have gone on the basis of
assessment made by Chidambaram and Kalam. They have concluded
that through computer simulation and information from the test
we could design a whole range of nuclear weapons. That's
what they claimed. We have gone on that basis as of now."
"There is no imminence about this treaty. I don't see any
reason why India should take any immediate decision one way or
the other," he said, noting many countries have not signed it.
"First of all, US itself..its Senate has refused to
ratify the treaty and therefore until the US, China, Pakistan,
Israel and so many countries which are holding out, (unless)
they come in, there is no necessity for India to get so worked
up about CTBT," Srinivasan added. PTI RS
